Yangi Receives Swedish Energy Agency Grant to Accelerate U.S. Market Entry

Yangi has been awarded funding from the Swedish Energy Agency through the Global Innovation Accelerator (GIA) program to support its market entry in the United States.

The initiative will accelerate the commercialization and adoption of Yangi’s dry-forming technology, Cellera®, in a U.S. packaging market undergoing rapid structural change.

A market shaped by supply constraints and shifting production needs

Recent trade tariffs and anti-dumping duties on imported molded fiber products from Asia have reshaped the competitive landscape in the U.S., accelerating interest in locally produced, scalable, and energy-efficient manufacturing solutions. In contrast, demand for molded fiber packaging continues to exceed domestic production capacity. In parallel, there is a growing shift toward domestic manufacturing resilience, supply chain security, and localized production capacity.

At the same time, the market is being shaped by tightening regulatory and customer requirements for recyclable, compostable, and non-plastic packaging solutions, alongside broader U.S. policy direction aimed at increasing recycling rates, requirements that packaging produced with Yangi's dry-forming technology is well-positioned to address.

Enabling resilient, local fiber packaging production with Cellera

Yangi’s dry-forming technology, Cellera, is designed to help packaging producers establish scalable, locally based production capacity for fiber-based packaging. Cellera enables industrial-scale manufacturing with the throughput, consistency, and scalability required for high-volume packaging applications. By combining efficient production with fiber-based packaging capabilities, the technology helps converters expand capacity, strengthen supply resilience, and meet evolving customer and market requirements.

At the same time, the technology enables improved material efficiency and reduced water and energy consumption compared to conventional molded fiber processes, while helping producers address increasing requirements for recyclability and packaging compliance.

The technology is particularly relevant for mid- to large-scale packaging converters in the quick-serve food segment, where high-volume production, operational efficiency, and reliable supply are critical.

Strengthening Yangi’s presence in the U.S. market

The GIA-funded project will support Yangi’s engagement with packaging producers and converters in North America. The initiative marks an important step in Yangi’s international expansion strategy and supports the company’s ambition to strengthen its presence in the U.S. market.

Beyond commercial expansion, it contributes to the broader modernization of packaging production systems and reinforces Sweden’s position in advanced industrial process innovation.
